If you need a laugh: Dirk made the news over here again recently... 1.st: Because of the play-off games. (Big surprise, I know). 2nd: Dirk is listed as #1 player in the Tennis county league tournaments in "Unterfranken" (Lower francony) this summer. There are several newspaper clippings quoting Roland Mayer, partner of Dirk's sister Silke, that "Dirk wants to play. He can't wait." E.g.: www.spiegel.de/sport/sonst/0,1518,761912,00.html  Since the Tennis tournament is after the play-off games I think there is no need to worry about where Dirk's focus and priorities lie...  Still, a lot of things on Dirk's agenda this summer, b/c there is also this tiny little thing called European championships and the possibility to qualify for the Olympic Games in London. |

Thank you for sharing this article. I had a little difficulty translating the article. Do you know when they actually start playing to qualify in these tennis matches? Doesn't one need to compete and place at each level to advance, etc? And how nice to have something fun to do this summer. Playing tennis will keep him fit, along with his regular training. He is going to be very busy it seems. Perhaps he will find a little time to relax too. He's worked hard this season. Good luck.

Doesn't one need to compete and place at each level to advance, etc? And how nice to have something fun to do this summer. Playing tennis will keep him fit, along with his regular training. Oh, don't bother translating the article - only the first segment was about the tennis tournament. And I don't think that he "qualified" for the tournament at all, I think he is just a listed member in that club who plays there once in a while during the summer and maybe they put his name on that list as kind of a joke or in remembrance of his early successes in tennis when he was a kid. The boyfriend of Dirk's sister got quoted in various magazines that Dirk would "love to play" and "can't wait", but the way he put it it sounded more like a joke. So I guess Dirk might play in one or two games for the fun of it, but that may be it. LOL Or who knows - maybe he'll win the Lower Francony Tennis Championship this year?!?! I don't know when the games will take part. He won't have much time if he is to join the national team for the European Championship this summer, which is in August - but if he does that isn't decided yet, I think. It may depend on the outcome of the finals. |
